What is CFS?

CFS(Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is a complex disorder under which a person experience a persistence tiredness and fatigue that doesn't go away with resting making it harder for the person to carry out daily tasks and increases all the negative factors in life.







Symptoms of CFS:

  1. Fatigue: It involves fatigue that remains and making it harder for the person to do even a simpler task.


  2. Disturbance in Sleeping: Person suffering from CFS faces many problems related to sleeping like insomnia and doesn't feel refreshed even after sleeping for excess time.


  3. Muscle and Joint Pain: Person suffering from CFS often faces many problem related to pain in the muscles and joint.


  4. Problems with Cognition: Person also faces problems in concentrating, focusing on some task, and always have mental fog.


  5. Increases over time: Mental or physical exertion increases the symptoms overtime and often creates the problems whose root causes in undetectable.









Causes of CFS:

  1. Viral Infections: It often starts from a viral infections specially Epstein-Barr virus or herpesvirus


  2. Abnormalities in Immune System: Sometime problems in immune system causes abnormalities mistaking the virus as not dangerous and hence the virus create problem


  3. Imbalance in Hormones: When the hormones like cortisol and thyroid and not regulated by the body, it often creates various problems and diseases.


  4. Psychological Problems: Problems like stresss, dipression has been seen among the people suffering from CFS. However it is not one of the necessary cause of the disease.


  5. Genetic Problems: Peoples having some specific genetic components are often seen to be vulnerable to this disease as compared to others.







How to treat CFS:

It mostly depends on the person of how severe the symptoms are and how they are affecting the lifestyle and the recovery program is designed specific to that person in order to amplify the effects of the treatment.

  1. Adjustment in Lifestyle: The patient is advised not to do any activites which amplifies the symptoms of the disease and avoiding exhaustion.


  2. Treating the Cognitive Behaviour: The patient is given treatment to overcome his/her negative thought patterns in order to help them manage their behaviour.


  3. Exercise Therapy: The healthcare professionals design some exercises for the patient in order to increase their physical ability and stamina.


  4. Medications: Depending on the intensity of the disease, the patient is prescibed some medicines which help them improving the sleeping pattern, increasing strength, elevating mood etc.


  5. Dietary adjustments and Yoga: The patient is prescribed some adjustments in their foods by the healthcare experts to ensure faster recovery and also some yogasanas and meditation techniques to keep all the hormones of brain and body in check.
